OUR CONES

There are some manufacturers that make cones and there are some manufacturers that make GREAT cones. There is a huge difference in technical capability between the two for what may look like the same product at the outset. We would like to consider ourselves in the latter category. Keep in mind all cones are hand made so the required training, monitoring and quality control for each and every cone is so important. Below are some of the properties of our cones and some things to look out for when buying cones. You really only get a great product once all this comes together.

QUALITY OF PAPER

This is the right place to start if you want a great cone. The quality of the paper HAS to be from a reputed mill. The bulk of our paper comes from only the best mill in France. Some of the properties required in the paper are even burning – that means no Canoeing. Another thing we look for is low ash content that means the only ash left once burnt is from the herb and not the paper.

GUM LINE

One of the hardest things to master when making a cone is the 1mm straight gum line. That process of getting it from 5mm to 1mm and then making sure each and every one is completely straight is a masterclass journey on its own.

GUM QUALITY

Our gum is a natural gum that leaves an invisible gum line. Sourced from the Netherlands we mix 3 different types of gums to achieve the smallest possible line that you cannot see.

FLAP WIDTH

On every cone it is desired to make the overlapping flap as small as possible. This is so that you are smoking the least possible paper and so that the flap does not get in the way of the filling process. On ours we make it at 4mm maximum.

PERFECTLY ROUND AND STANDARD

It is important that cones are perfectly round and not oval shaped or have a corner where the glue line is. Cones should also be perfectly standard otherwise cone machines will have trouble filling and the filling machine needs to be stopped often. This means time and money.
